Yosemite Area Fires
Jun 24, 2008 - 11:46 PM - by Sandman
THANK
YOU
FIREFIGHTERS!

Oliver Complex Fire
Over 2,789 acres - 80% contained
Moderate fire activity, primarily burning vegetation within the interior of the fire. Mop-up of the large fuels is a slow and tedious process. Damage to roads and property caused by fire suppression actions are being evaluated and repair work by incident personnel is starting. Although the fire is not completely contained, the threat to the Ponderosa Basin has been mitigated. Residents and visitors to the foothill and mountain area are reminded that fireworks are not allowed due to high fire danger. Residents are asked to take responsibility for living in the wildlands by creating and maintaining a minimum of 100 feet of Defensible Space around all structures.

Silver Knob Fire
Over 570 acres - 100% contained
Firefighters are continuing to patrol and mop up to ensure there are no hot spots that could re-ignite.

Star Fire
Over 3300 acres - 10% contained
The Star Fire, burning eight miles southeast of Wawona, is now 330 acres and 10 percent contained. Firefighters continue to make good progress in establishing and holding the fire line on the North end. Water dropping helicopters are helping firefighters cool down hot spots in the area.

Westfall Fire
Over 105 acres - 100% contained
Firefighters are continuing to patrol and mop up to ensure there are no hot spots that could re-ignite.

Chiquito Fire
Over 54 acres
- 100% contained
Firefighters are continuing to patrol and mop up to ensure there are no hot spots that could re-ignite.
